New York (Staff Report) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday telephoned Director General Haj Abu Akif to inquire about the latest situation of Pakistani Haj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement the premier has instructed DG Haj to take every step to find the missing Pakistani Haj pilgrims.
As many as 316 Pakistani Haj pilgrims have been missing since Friday’s Mina stampede tragedy which claimed lives of more than 700 pilgrims including at half a dozen Pakistanis.
“Initially there was report that around 400 Pakistanis were missing however we managed to contact 86 Pakistanis,” said DG Haj.
He said Pakistani diplomats have been granted access to hospitals where the injured are being treated and they were collecting data which will be made public shortly.
Akif said the Saudi government would soon make a final announcement about the identities of those martyred and injured during the stampede in Mina.
