QMobile caught selling smartphones without IMEI number, claims private TV channel

ISLAMABAD – One of the top smartphone brands of the country QMobile is alleged to be selling a variety of smartphones without IMEI number, it emerged on Monday.

According to a report by 92 News, smartphone giant QMobile that spends massively on its advertisement is believed to be importing sub-standard mobile phones from China.

What exacerbates the situation is the fact that reportedly, these smartphones sold out to tech-savvy customers in Pakistan did not have any International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number.

The missing IMEI number increases risks of anonymous use of smartphones which in case of violence-torn Pakistan becomes more threatening as the said phones can be harnessed by militants to wreck havoc.

It is relevant to mention that IMEI number can be used to trace or block any smartphone. It’s a unique number attached to every device and its absence as in the case of QMobile multiplies security dangers.

The smartphone firm is yet to respond to the allegations.
