NEW DELHI – Since China has announced to invest $46 billion in Pakistan under the CPEC project, India has been taking extraordinary interest in Pakistani areas –Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan– which are focus of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Deluded by the false hopes to sabotage the landmark project which will transform Pakistan’s economy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned Balochistan and Gilgit Baltistan in his Independence Day speech and later claimed that the people of Balochistan and Gilgit had thanked him for raising in their favour.
Being the Prime Minister of India, a country which would leave no chance to weaken Pakistan, self-styled Narendra Modi counted on baseless assertion, but the Indian media even went a step forward and presented a video proof of an uprising in Gilgit Baltistan, which in reality never happened.
The video was originally distributed by India-based Asian News International agency and was later on aired by other Indian mainstream media on August 13.
About the contents of the video, Indian media claimed the people were protesting the atrocities of Pakistani forces in Gilgit Baltistan. However, just like it happens in almost every other case, the video was found to be fake.
According to Awami Workers Party (AWP), this was the footage of a rally taken out by the party during a by-election in Gilgit Baltistan some months ago.
The party also issued a clarification: “AWP calls on Indian news outlets to retract the baseless stories regarding this rally and adequately investigate the stories they are reporting on, rather than serving as a mouthpiece for government propaganda.”
AWP said that the rally was part of their election campaign for a by-election on the seat the Gilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly.
