KARACHI – While Pak-India border tensions soar, Pakistan’s largest cinema house Nueplex has announced not to screen any Indian movie.
In a statement released, the Nueplex administration said the move was taken as an expression of solidarity with the Armed Forces of Pakistan. The decision would be effective immediately.
“We will keep our patrons informed of further developments in this matter,” the statement went on to say.
The development came as India Thursday claimed to have conducted a surgical strike across Line of Control (LoC) in Azad Kashmir. Pakistan denied the claim, saying that there was only a ceasefire violation which was befittingly responded by Pakistani troops.
Since the decline of Pakistani film industry, the Indian movies have been a major source of revenue for Pakistani cinemas. According to an estimate, some 80 of the profits come from Indian films while Hollywood films remain second in the list.
