ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – Tariq Fatemi, who is serving as special adviser to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Monday discussed core issue related to bilateral relationship between Pakistan and United States in a meeting with Washington’s ambassador-designate to Islamabad David Hale.
According to a statement, both leaders exchanged their views in the light of newly prevailing situation in Middle East and South Asian region, agreeing that a close and strategic partnership between Pakistan and the United States is imperative in view of regional and international issues.
They acknowledged that continuation of strong historic relationship between the two countries was only way ahead.
Fatemi told Mr Hale about Prime Minister’s recent visit to the US and said the two sides have agreed to strengthen their relations in the fields of defence, security, energy, trade, economy and education.
On this occasion, the new US Ambassador also expressed confidence that Pakistan-US relations would continue to follow a positive trajectory in the coming days.
Meanwhile another news report suggests that David Hale is expected to soon meet President Mamnoon Hussain and present his credentials to formally take charge as US ambassador to Pakistan.
“During his stay in Islamabad as US envoy, Mr Hale will be working with his Pakistani counterparts and the Pakistani people to strengthen American-Pakistani relations, increase trade between the two countries, further enhance our security partnership, and advance the broad agenda laid out by President Obama and Prime Minister Sharif when they met in Washington on October 22, 2015,” a statement from US embassy said.
