List of most expensive passports in the world

LONDON (Web Desk) – Passports are in the news as many European countries consider increased border security checks in the aftermath of Paris attacks in which 129 people were killed.

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, said the EU must quickly implement beefed-up border security measures in the wake of the attack.

The most expensive passport in the world can be found in Turkey. It costs $251 (ÂŁ165), or about 95 hours of minimum wage work, according to rankings collated by GoEuro and presented by Statista.

After Turkey, Australia and Switzerland have the most expensive passports, costing $206 (ÂŁ135) and $159 (ÂŁ105) respectively.

Mexican passports come fourth, costing $155 (ÂŁ102) and taking 266 hours of minimum wage work to buy.

US passports come in fifth, costing $135 (ÂŁ89) and taking 19 hours of minimum wage work to afford.

The cheapest passport in the world can be bought in the United Arab Emirates, costing $14 (ÂŁ9). It would take two hours of minimum wage work to afford.

The British passport came in 10th place at a cost of $110 (ÂŁ72), requiring 11 hours of minimum wage work to buy.

Previous research by GoEuro found the British passport is one of the most useful in the world, allowing its holder to visit 174 countries visa-free.
