LAHORE (Web Desk) – A man namely Muhammad Saleem filed an application with Lahore’s Nishtar Colony Police Station on Monday, saying one of the two men lynched by an angry mob following the twin bombings at Youhanabad churches on Sunday, was his brother.
Police officials confirmed Muhammad Saleem had approached them to register a murder case against the protesters who brutally killed and then torched Naeem’s body.
“My brother worked as a glass cutter and he had nothing to do with yesterday’s bombings,” Saleem was cited as having said by local TV channels.
They added that Naeem had come to Lahore for work from his hometown in Kasur. He had been running a glass repair shop in the area for the past ten years.
“My brother had told me that he would return home as soon as he was done with his work for the day,” Naeem’s sister told a private television in a sobbing voice.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday issued orders for immediate arrest of all those responsible for lynching Naeem and burning his body. Taking notice of the incident, the chief minister said no one would be allowed to take law into their hands.
Following yesterday’s attacks on two churches in Lahore’s Christian locality, Youhanabad, scores of protesters had taken away two suspects held by the police and lynched.
Identity of the other suspect has not yet been ascertained.
Punjab Police IG Mushtaq Sukhera had said after the lynching: “The policemen did attempt to resist but the mob was highly charged. It was not impossible to use force at the time because it could turn the situation ugly and perhaps out of control.”
The situation outside Youhanabad remains out of control as protests against the bombings have turned violent.
According to latest reports, seven protesters were injured after mobs clashed with baton-wielding policemen.
