CUMBRIA (Web Desk) – An 11-year-old boy accidentally hanged himself in his bedroom when a prank he was trying to play on his mother went awfully wrong.
Sonny Jack Yates Pearson from Appleby, Cumbria, was known to play with rope, often putting up makeshift swings in his room.
Sonny – described as a happy, well-adjusted boy – was at home with his mother, Nicola, and sister in January waiting to go out when he decided to go into his room, the Daily Mail reported.
Just ten minutes after going into his room he was found hanging dead from the ceiling by his mother, who had walked in to put away some washing.
At first she thought it was a prank – but then to her horror realized what was happening.
Despite having a broken arm, she and other family members did everything they could to save Sonny, but to no avail.
Through tears, Nicola said: ‘We were going out that afternoon. We were all getting ready to go out. Sonny was messing about in his room.
“He used to mess around with rope and make things. He made swings outside,” she said tearfully.
Sonny’s dad, Andrew Colin Pearson, recalled the fun he had had the previous evening with his son, who loved football.
“He was amazing – everybody knew him,” said Mr Pearson.
Stepfather Michael Longrigg said he had gone into his stepson’s room a few months earlier to ask him if he wanted to play on the X-Box and found him about to use a swing he had fashioned himself.
“I immediately told him to stop,” he said.
“He said they did it all the time when they were playing. I explained how dangerous it could be and how that was how an accident could happen,” he explained. Unfortunately, Sonny paid no heed to the advice.
