JoJo is a name familiar to many because of the 2004 jam ‘Leave (Get Out), which was a favourite amongst young girls at the time. The songstress is back, and all grown up now.
Coming up soon with her first full-length album in 10 years, JoJo says she is ready to make an ‘epic comeback.’
JoJo went through a legal battle with her previous record label, and also struggled with depression, drinking and eating disorders.
JoJo claimed in a recent interview to ET that she was depressed and gaining weight because she drank herself out of her mind. “I’m being totally honest, I just wanted to feel good and get out of my mind and trying to fill a hole that I had,” she stated.
JoJo topped the charts for the first time when she was just 13 years old, but she claims she was pressured to lose weight in her teenage years, and sometimes bent towards unhealthy measures.
At one point, she was eating 500 calories a day and injecting herself with supplements in hopes of shedding fast.
JoJo speaks about the way men would tell her to look a ‘certain way’ so that they would put her music out.
“My music was already being dangled in front of me, so I thought if this is going to make my music come out, then OK.”
JoJo was on shots for a very long time. The singer claims that she injected herself with something that tricked her body into thinking that she was pregnant, and she did it just because she wanted her career to move forward.
“I feel like, particularly as females, sometimes we apologize for taking up space … for taking the moves that we need to make, whether we realize that we’re being apologetic for it. So, it really is just about knowing who you are, digging who you are, not making excuses to make other people feel comfortable,” she quoted.
