BAHAWALPUR – Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique announced a timeframe of 48 hours time to investigate the Lodhran train accident that killed 9 people including eight children.
The minister visited Victoria Hospital and met the victims of train crash where he promised justice to victim families. He announced Rs 1.5 million for the families of the killed persons and Rs 300,000 for the injured.
He further stated that the suspects, including two gatekeepers, two drivers and one assistant driver have been arrested, while investigation is underway. He added that the signal was functional and the incident happened due to negligence of gatekeepers. The local police and Railways police will investigate the matter.
The Pakistan Railways was neglected during last 60 years, Rafique said, adding, “We improved the system by utilising all available resources.”
As many as 8 people including five school-going children were killed when a train rammed into motorcycle rickshaw at Lodhran railway crossing here on Friday.
According to reports, the incident took place at Jalal Pur Pir Wala crossing when the Hazara Express rammed into motorcycle rickshaw.
