Mahira Khan takes a stand for equality and tolerance at LSA 2017

Celebrities no longer need to shy away anymore when it comes to shedding light on matters of national or social interest; it’s this very construct that tests the unity of a nation all at once and gives us proof as to the amount of true sportsmanship these stars are willing to show in light of the hidden voices of the country.

The LSAs this year were witness to an affluential turn, giving Pakistan’s famous-most rising stars a platform to stand up for the issues they wished to pay tribute to.

Ahsan Khan and Mahira Khan were the two leading examples at the LSA 2017 last night.

Mahira Khan who bagged the award for ‘Best Film Actress’ for her role in Ho Mann Jahaan, asked people to be tolerant towards others’ beliefs and allow equality for all.

“What I feel we do deserve is a country where we have some sort of equality for every single body no matter what they believe in or what they don’t believe in. I really wish people saw people like us more often, all of us getting together, so much talent, so much love under one roof, it is truly amazing and spectacular. This is for my country and my fans.”

Last year at the LSAs, Faysal Qureshi dedicated his Best TV Actor Award to Kashmiris – 2016 was a year considered to be most turbulent and violent for Kashmir in the longest of times.

Here’s to hoping that other celebrities in the future will take on more active and humanitarian leads into stepping out of their stringent spotlights and using their talents and skills to educating the masses within Pakistan.
