At least 22 killed, over 59 injured in suicide attack at Manchester concert

MANCHESTER – At least 22 people were killed and more than 59 injured after an explosion at Ariana Grande concert in a crowded Manchester concert hall, which left hundreds of people fleeing in terror.

BBC quoted Greater Manchester Police as saying, “the lone male attacker, who died in the blast, was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated”.

Police said they were dealing with a possible terror incident which happened at the Manchester Arena, with witnesses claiming to have heard an explosion around 10.40pm.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd terming it “a barbaric attack” said that it was carried out deliberately to target some of the most vulnerable.

A concert by American pop singer Ariana Grande was being staged at the time. Footage from inside the Manchester Arena, which has a 21,000 capacity, shows a crowd containing many young revellers.

UK Prime Minister Theresa May has postponed her general election campaigning and will hold a meeting of the government’s emergency Cobra committee to discuss the recent terror attack.

The prime minister said: “We are working to establish the full details of what had happened in Manchester,” adding that it was a terrific and condemnable attack.

“All our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those who have been affected,” May said.

It is worth mentioning that general elections of the country are going to be held on June 8.
