ISLAMABAD – The 12th Anniversary of devastating Earthquake 2005 is being observed throughout Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.
The day dawned with special prayers for integrity and prosperity of Pakistan and early liberation of Indian occupied Kashmi, reports Radio Pakistan.
Fateh Khawani and Quran Khawni were offered for thousands of martyrs who lost their lives in this catastrophe in Azad Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Collective prayers were held in all the quake-hit districts of Azad Kashmir.
The wrath-shaking earthquake had rocked Kashmir and areas far and wide at 5:25am in the early morning of October 8, 2005. The 7.6 earthquake did shook the earth for minutes without giving any chance to the people any chance to escape.
The deadly quake had killed more than 90,000 people and dislocated over 3.5 million.
Schools, hospitals, businesses, roads, bridges, homes, and infrastructure was badly damage while bodies were found scattered everywhere.
National Disaster Management Authority will be organizing various programs including flag march, cyclotrons, awareness march and a public ceremony at Fatima Jinnah Park, Islamabad, Lahore and other cities of the country.
