Having won Test, ODI series, new-look India hope to pocket T20Is as well. India will be led by Rohit Sharma as regular skipper Virat Kohli and some other regulars have been rested in view of the upcoming South Africa tour, reports Indian media.
Going into today’s tie, Rohit will have a new opening partner in Lokesh Rahul with Shikhar Dhawan rested for the series. Former skipper MS Dhoni will need to guide the inexperienced middle-order comprising rookies Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Hooda and Manish Pandey. Dinesh Karthik and all-rounder Hardik Pandya will need to provide stability to the lower order.
Stand in skipper Rohit has 1,485 T20I runs to his name and is just 15 runs away from becoming the second Indian after Virat Kohli to score 1,500 runs.
The elegant opener has played 68 T20Is and averages 30.30 with a strike rate of 129.92. He has a century and 12 fifties to his name. The Indian batsman will become the 14th cricketer to score 1,500 in T20I history.
Sri Lanka, on the other hand, have lost five T20Is on the trot, starting the match against Bangladesh in April. For the visitors, Upul Tharanga, who smashed a fine 95 in the third ODI, would be the key along with former skipper Angelo Mathews. The Lankans would also hope that stumper Niroshan Dickwella strikes form and lends some stability to the middle-order comprising Asela Gunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Thisara Perera.
