Gold worth Rs2crore seized from Indian plane s toilet

MUMBAI (Web Desk) – Indian authorities on Saturday seized gold worth Rs2 crore being smuggled in a Jet Airways flight from Muscat at Mumbai airport.

Customs’ Air intelligence unit seized 8 kg gold in two toilets of a flight at Mumbai airport. A passenger has also been arrested in the gold smuggling case, the Times of India reported.

The Customs got specific information that 8 gold bars (1 kg each) were concealed the two rear toilets of the Jet Airways 9W-539 Muscat Mumbai. After the gold seizure the Customs intercepted a passenger, Segu Naina. He confessed that he kept the gold inside the toilets. He told the Customs officials that gold was to be retrieved during the domestic leg of the craft to Calcutta.

“The accused is courrier and he was following his handler’s instruction. The accused had dropped the gold bars into dustbins inside the toilets. Afterwards someone used a screwdriver to conceal the gold bars in the toilets to ensure that no one can notice it” said Milind Lanjewar, Customs additional commissioner.

The officials suspect involvement of flight crew members in the case and are inquiring about it.

The officials are also inquiring the arrested accused about his handler and other case related details.

He will be produced in court for seeking judicial custody.
