KARACHI – Renowned chef and media personality Zubaida Tariq passed away in Karachi after a brief illness late on Thursday, family sources said.
Her brother Anwar Maqsood confirmed the sad news, adding the celebrated professional cook had been unwell for some time.
Zubaida Tariq alias Zubaida Aapa was famous for her handy culinary and housekeeping hints (totkas). She was a household name, and used to do culinary shows and wrote cookbooks.
According to Zubaida Aapa’s family, her funeral prayers and burial will take place after Jumma prayers.
She lovingly came to be known as Zubaida Aapa.
With a formal-sounding name Mrs. Zubaida Tariq, Aapa made her TV debut back in 1996 when she was in her 50s. Her first programme — Dalda Ka Dastarkhwan — soon went on to become a widely popular evening engagement.
Born into an educated family of Hyderabad Deccan, Zubaida Aapa was the youngest of the 9 siblings. Renowned playwright (late) Fatima Surayya Bajia was her eldest sister.
