Volunteering for an educated tomorrow: Teaching in slums of Hyderabad

HYDERABAD – In am honourable gesture of providing education far and wide, Saima Jafri, a member of Woman Action Forum opened up a school in slums of  Naseem Nagar, Hyderabad.

The slum, having  an approximate population of 300 people has the families working on day to day basis for their livelihood. From picking up trash to making their children beg for food at the end of the day, these people live in very harsh conditions.

Saima and her team have collectively spent around 10,000PKR (3000PKR for hiring a teacher and the rest for basic necessities including stationary for children a rug to sit on, and a water cooler) in the slum.

Many volunteers are also teaching a number of subjects to the kids, with Saima teaching English herself.

She hopes to take the initiative further and spread the message so that more children can benefit from education.
