SEOUL – Wait for Samsung’s foldable smartphone, a much-hyped gadget, is finally over if the latest reports are believed to be true.
A top official yesterday confirmed the South Korean tech giant will introduce its foldable smartphone by the end of this year.
In an interview with CNBC, Samsung’s mobile division CEO, DJ Koh revealed that the company is looking to introduce its first foldable Galaxy as early as this year.
DJ Koh told CNBC that “it’s time to deliver” on a foldable device after consumer surveys carried out by Samsung showed that there is a market for that kind of handset.
Koh didn’t disclose any specifications about the smartphone but he announced that company will unveil the smartphone at Samsung Developers Conference 2018, which is set for November 7-8 in San Francisco.
Moreover, Koh promised that the device will have added functions when it’s unfolded so it can give a reason for early adopters to buy it.
Samsung is likely to focus on creating an actual screen that bends instead of using old-school flip phones’ hinge.
Previously, it was reported that Samsung’s upcoming foldable smartphone would use a single screen.
Samsung is not the only manufacturer which plans to launch a foldable phone this year; Chinese smartphone manufacturer is also working on its foldable smartphone.
