LAHORE – 27 year old police officer Anisha says that the girl who can protect herself will be able to protect others. Indonesia decides to recruit female police officers through a process of checking their virginities, whether they are intact or not.
However, the Indonesian Police also have a ‘reason’ for the extremely intrusive procedure. They firmly believe that the Indonesian people won’t accept a female officer who has an active intimate life. To put it straight, they only want ‘good girls’ to be police officers.
Women are certainly not happy with a personal check up of this sort since it is like being stripped off dignity. How can a woman’s personal status put a label on her in any way? We are confused.
