RAWALPINDI – On Thursday Pakistan Army’s media wing confirmed the execution of a hardcore terrorist who carried out an attack on Bannu jail in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa.
The development came days after parliament gave the go-ahead to the revival of military courts. The statement by the Pakistan military media wing said that the militant ‘Tahir’ was involved in serious crimes and terrorism and was sentenced to death by military court where he had confessed his crimes.
“He was involved in attacks on Bannu Jail and intelligence agencies’ personnel,” the ISPR said.
“Tahir was also an active member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan,” the statement added.
In April 2012, over 200 heavily armed Taliban militants barged into the Central Jail in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, releasing 384 prisoners in a pre-dawn assault.
The PTI-led Khyber Pukhtunkhwa government faced criticism over the negligence that led to the illegal release of militants in such a huge number.
