Interior ministry refers Dawn Leaks issue to APNS, seeks disciplinary action against editor, columnist
ISLAMABAD - The interior ministry has referred the issue of Dawn Leaks to the premier body of newspapers publishers ‘All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS)’ on Wednesday.

According to a fresh notification issued by the ministry after the Dawn Leaks issue was settled, the committee constituted to probe Dawn Leaks directed to take disciplinary action against Daily Dawn, its editor Zafar Abbas and columnist Cyril Almeida who published the story 'Act against militants or face diplomatic isolation'.

The notification also confirms that the prime minister had approved the unanimous recommendations of Dawn Leaks inquiry committee.

Apart from seeking action against the leading daily, it also says that the action already taken by the federal government against Senator Pervaiz Rasheed is endorsed.

‘The committee unanimously agreed that Rao Tehseen had not displayed the required level of professionalism and has shown carelessness while dealing with the issue that the committee recommends that, he being a civil servant, may be proceeded against under the Efficiency & Discipline Rules 1973’ said the notification.

And lastly, the revised notification also recommends removal of Tariq Fatemi, special assistant to the prime minister on Foreign Affairs, who has already been fired by the premier.

The writer is a civil servant.
