SFK Bridals accused another brand for stealing their design

LAHORE – The social media network has made it impossible for plagiarism to go undetected and by hook or crook, the fashion industry is wisening up to that fact and implementing a strict code of ethics. That said the codes vary from high end to high street and that line needs to be drawn.

These days many leading fashion brands are accusing others of copying out their designs without taking the copyrights. designers all over the world have been feeding off each other’s ideas since time immemorial. Italian designer Roberto Cavalli has been on an aggressive rampage against Michael Kors for years, accusing the American designer of being “the biggest copy designer in the world.”

Recently, Sadaf Fawad Khan had accused another menswear brand, Republic By Omar Farooq of plagiarising her design which he had issued in June 2018 (last year) without any consent.

A few days ago, SFK Bridals put up a post on their official Instagram page, of their own sherwani design, worn by the brand’s ambassador, actor Fawad Khan (who is also the designer and owner Sadaf Fawad Khan’s husband) in a shoot from June 2018, and a similar version of it that was posted recently on the Republic Menswear Facebook page.

Here is the post:

Many social media users supported SFK bridals and were in favour of the Sadaf Fawad’s leading brand:

Clearing their side of the story, Republic by Omar Farooq later issued an official statement as well. The replication had apparently been due to ‘a mistake carried out by an enthusiastic and inexperienced staff member’ who got confused because Fawad had been associated with Republic Menswear in the past.

Below is the post by Republic by Omar Farooq:

According to Omar, this whole incident was done out of mistake since there are many customers who request them to recreate Fawad’s look so without taking a proper look, they created a look out of one of Fawad’s shoot without noticing that it was of SFK Bridals.

Well, To us it seems unethical of using some other ideas and not giving them credits. One cannot expect such blunder by a leading brand like Republic by Omar Farooq and it is not unacceptable anywhere in the world that fulfilling customers request of copying other brands designs.

Stay tuned for more updates.
