QUETTA – A Canadian firm will establish various solar plants with a combined capacity of 1000 MW in Balochistan to overcome the power shortfall in the province according to a statement issued by the provincial government, which concluded an agreement with the firm on Saturday.
Under powers obtained after passage of the 18th Amendment, the Balochistan government directly approached the Canadian government for help in overcoming the energy shortfall in the province, it read.
Chief Secretary Balochistan and Chairman, Board of Investment played a significant role in developing an understanding between both governments.
Under the arrangement, the Canadian firm will build solar energy power plants of 50 MW capacity each in different areas of Balochistan, respectively.
Pakistan’s economy has been crippled by energy shortages over the past decade, with businesses saying that they deter foreign investment and hurt productivity.
