PEMRA orders to shut down transmission of Bol News, Bol Entertainment as it revokes licences of both

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) ordered to revoke the license of Bol News and Bol entertainment on Wednesday with immediate effect.

The decision that would block the transmission of both the channels for one more time came after the interior ministry rejected the security clearance of Bol’s Chief Executive officer Shoaib Sheikh, his wife Ayesha Shoaib, Viqas Atiq and Sarwat Bashir.

The participants in PEMRA’s 131st authority meeting held at Islamabad under the chair of chairman Absar Alam discussed the recommendations put forth by the council of complaints Sindh.

After the meeting, Bol News and Bol Entertainment (Pak News) have been directed to surrender their original licenses and clear all the outstanding dues.

“Instructions have been given to PakSat to immediately stop the transmission of Bol News and Bol Entertainment which are no more PEMRA’s licenses,” said the statement by the media watchdog.

To fully implement the order at the earliest, cable operators have also been directed to take both the channels off air.

Surprisingly, the order came on World Press Freedom Day.
