PAKvBAN: Bangladesh complete historic 2-0 whitewash vs Pakistan in Test series

RAWALPINDI – Bangladesh calmly chased the target of 185 runs on the final day of the second Test to bag the two-match series at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

It marks the second overseas series win by the Bangladesh as they had first defeated West Indies at their home in 2009. It is also the first time that Bangladesh have cleaned sweep a Test series.

They visitors outclassed the hosts by six wickets after they opened the final day needing just 143 runs to clinch the two-match series. It is the second defeat faced by Pakistan in home series as they were previously beat by England in 2022.

The penultimate day saw Shanto-led Bangladesh on top as Zakir Hussain made 40 runs in second innings while Shadman Islam made 24. Najamul Hasan Shanto and Mominul Haq made 38 and 34, respectively.

Musfiqur Rahim scored unbeaten 22 while Shakib Al Hasan made 21 to seal the victory for their side.

Bangladesh remained dominant due to their strong performance in first innings, with total of 262 runs in 78.4 overs. Key contributions came from Liton Das, who scored 138 off 228 balls, and all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who added 78 from 124 balls.

Pakistan’s bowlers, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, and Salman Ali Agha made significant impacts with Shahzad claiming six wickets, while Hamza and Agha took two each.

If we look back, the first day of the game was disrupted by heavy rain. Pakistan’s batting on the second day yielded 274 runs in 85.1 overs, with decent performances from Shan Masood (57), Saim Ayub (58), and Salman Ali Agha (54).

Bangladesh’s bowlers, including Taskin Ahmed, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nahid Rana, and Shakib Al Hasan, were effective in dismissing Pakistan’s first innings.

Pakistan, starting their second innings with a 12-run lead, managed to score 172 runs in 46.4 overs, with Agha leading the scoring with 47 off 71 balls. Rain ended play early on the fourth day, and more rain is forecast for the final day. If Bangladesh successfully chases down the target, they will secure a 2-0 series win for the first time.
