KARACHI – The son of an influential leader of Pakistan Peoples Party who along with other accomplices allegedly gang-raped a Hindu youngster in Thatta area of Sindh, was arrested on Thursday.
Reportedly, the incident- which was recorded and put online – took place in the Darro town of Sajawal district where the main accused Arbab Ibrahim Memon and half a dozen other men tortured the victim besides raping him.
Arbab Ibrahim Memon is the son of PPP leader Rameezul Haq who had contested elections on the party’s ticket in the previous general elections and his detention has somewhat eased the locals who felt betrayed by police.
On the other hand, the victim is a 19-year-old boy* whose family has migrated to another town and is not available for comment.
Revealing the action taken in this regard, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Sial confirmed that two employees of the health department, Saleh Memon and Saleem Ghugho had been suspended, Express Tribune reported.
“I have ordered police to take action and arrest the culprits involved,” observed Sial and asserted that action will be taken irrespective of the influence of these rapists.
Moreover, Thatta SSP Fida Hussain Janwari claimed that they were ready to take action against the accused but the victim’s family was not cooperating.
The incident not only riled the locals, but the social media buffs also heaped scorn on local administration for their negligence.
