WASHINGTON (Staff Report) – Pakistani-Canadian Muslim artist Fawzia Mirza has been honoured with ‘Champion of Change’ award by the White House.
The prestigious American award is conferred to artists who are able to bring about a change in their respective communities through their work and bridge gaps while highlighting issues of shared interest for different societies.
Fawzia Mirza lives in Chicago but her parents hail from Karachi, Pakistan. She’s an actor, writer, and producer and has written and produced theater, web series, short films, documentaries, and more.
Fawzia says she believes in the power of art, storytelling, and comedy to break down barriers between different identitie.
The artist also played “Ayesha Ali Trump” in a mockumentary named “The Muslim Trump Documentary,” which was based on an imagination that what might happen if Donald Trump had a Muslim daughter.
Fawzia is currently producing her first feature film, “Signature Move”, which is about a Pakistani woman finding herself through love and wrestling. The film was selected to be part of the 2016 Tribeca Film Institute All Access program.
She is also the recipient of the 2015 3Arts Award and was named a Rising Star in Indie Filmmaking by WBEZ Chicago. Fawzia Mirza also featured in “Top Ten Creative” list by Indiewire Magazine.
