Pink Eye Virus surge in Punjab; Here’s how to stay safe from viral Conjunctivitis

LAHORE – Pakistan’s most populated region Punjab saw massive increase in cases of conjunctivitis, with scores of patients coming to government and private hospital with pink eye.

So far, around a thousand fresh cases have been identified, with the highest numbers in Jhang, Multan, Bhakkar, DG Khan, and Lahore. In past 30 days, public hospitals across Punjab have recorded a total of 13,473 cases, pointing to a significant outbreak.

Every year, there are hundreds of pink eye cases during monsoon season. The year 2024 saw slight drop from last year’s figures, when over 288,000 cases were documented between January and September 2023.

Medical professionals said Conjunctivitis, spread through touching contaminated objects, close physical contact with infected individuals, and casual conversations.

You can keep yourself safe by wearing shades, using separate bedding and utensils and Isolating people with active infection. Masses are urged to follow these guidelines and seek medical care if symptoms arise, as the condition can be managed effectively with appropriate treatment.
