US agrees with PTI on Afghan conflict resolution: PM Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that the United States agreed with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for the first time regarding the Afghan conflict.

Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet, the premier highlighted that he was happy that Washington was realizing the need for a non-military solution to the ongoing Afghan war.

The premier also spoke about his meeting with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad.

"Khalilzad was sent by the US President Donald Trump to discuss the Afghan peace process and I am happy that I met him," Khan added.

The premier expressed that he was also happy that for the first time the US has recognised what [PTI] have been saying for the past 15 years about a political settlement in the war-battered Afghan war.

"The US wants our help to establish peace in Afghanistan and I always believed that instead of 'do more' we should play a role in the Afghan peace process," the prime minister asserted.

He expressed that Pakistan would try its best to establish peace in Afghanistan through dialogue.

The premier stated that 'It is good that we have gotten the chance to play the role of a mediator rather than fighting someone else's war,'.

The premier also dished in on the issue of Yemen conflict and said he had spoken to Saudi Arabia and Iran's foreign minister in this regard saying, we will try our best to bring an end to the Yemen war.

Commenting on the groundbreaking of the Kartarpur corridor PM Imran said that unfortunately, India portrayed it as an element to seek political advantage.

He revealed that during his swearing-in ceremony, Navjot Singh Sidhu had discussed the issue with him.

"I am glad that we all pressed and created a successful event," he observed.

Regarding the faltering economy, the premier admitted that Pakistan was facing difficult circumstances but lauded finance, commerce and planning ministries for striving hard to steer the economy towards improvement.

"Investment is coming in Pakistan but opponents make it seem that the country is in crisis," he asserted.
