PCB sought more time in announcing T20 squad for world cup

ISLAMABAD (APP) – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday sought a couple of days time from the International Cricket Council (ICC) in announcing squads for the Twenty-20 World Cup and Asia Cup.

The T20 World Cup will be held in India from March 8 to April 3 while the Asia Cup will be staged in Bangladesh from February 24 to March 6.

Feb. 8 was supposed to be the deadline for World Cup-bound squad.

A PCB official said the Chairman had earlier approved the squad for the events but the team management wanted to watch players further in action in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“Therefore, PCB has asked for more time from the ICC in announcing the squads,” he said, hoping the squad will be announced in two to three days.

According to details, Umar Gul, Sohaib Maqsood and Muhammad Rizwan are likely to be dropped from the squads while Ahmad Shahzad, who smashed 71 runs against Karachi Kings for Quetta Gladiators in PSL, is to make his place in the team.

Kamran Akmal and Rumman Raees have been included in the team. Muhammad Irfan would not be the part of the outfit due to injury in the match against Karachi Kings.
