PM Imran s sister trapped in Chitral after glacial lake outburst

CHITRAL – A glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) was reported in the Golain region of Chitral District in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), leaving citizens and travellers including Prime Minister Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan in despair.

A huge area was inundated in floodwaters after it dealt a blow to the shops and houses nearby besides bridges and communication links; the Chitral DCO told a private channel that a helicopter is being arranged to evacuate Aleema Khan.

Scores of trees were uprooted because of the flood due to the explosion of Glacier ‘Azghor’, however, fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident.

“At least three houses and three shops have been damaged in the flood. No loss of life has been reported,” said provincial disaster management authority (PDMA) K-P and confirmed that rescue teams have been sent to the affected areas for operation.

The floodwater also suspended water flow from Golain Hydel Power Station, however, it continued to produce electricity using the stored water, Express News reported.
