KARACHI – The federal government has appointed Justice (r) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui as the new Sindh governor, according to official notification.
President Mamnoon Hussain signed the notification of Siddiqui’s appointement. putting an end to the 14-year-long tenure of MQM’s Ishrat-ul-Ibad who became governor Sindh in 2002.
Saeed shot to fame when he defied the request given by Pervez Musharraf via the Law Minister and Legal Adviser Sharifuddin Pirzada to take a new oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).
He was the candidate for president by PML-N during the 2008 presidential elections against PPPP’s Asif Ali Zardari.
However, he lost the presidential election by 159 votes to Asif Ali Zardari, who was elected President of Pakistan.
Saeed While talking to media expressed that he got to know of the decision through television channels although the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif contacted him telephonically a few months back. He said that he would try to maintain law and order situation in the province. He went on to say that MQM members traded barbs with each other and that could be a reason behind replacing Ishrat-ul-ibad.
