18 injured after firebomb attack on train in Hong Kong

HONG KONG – At least 18 people sustained serious burn injuries and smoke inhalation after a man hurled a petrol bomb onto a train at Tsim Sha Tsui station in Hong Kong.

The injured persons, including two in critical condition were brought to the Kwong Wah Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Mary Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital.

Earlier, paramedical staff treated the patients lying on the floor of station, covering passengers with bandages and treating serious burns.

The police arrested a 60-year-old suspect surnamed Cheung for arson when he admitted that he started the fire as he was being transferred to the hospital.

The police said suspected fire accelerants in liquid form were confiscated at the scene, and initial investigation revealed that the man took this brutal step due to personal reasons.
