VIDEO: Black ink thrown at Khawaja Asif in Sialkot

SIALKOT – The hostility among political rivals took an ugly turn on Saturday when a man tossed black paint on Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif in his own hometown.

Asif, who was addressing a PML-N workers convention in Sialkot, said such incidents “cannot weaken my resolve.”

The security staff took the man into custody.

The suspect who is identified as Faiz-ul-Rasool, is a resident of Muzaffarpur near Sialkot. However, the motive for the attack is yet unclear.

The minister, who alleged that the suspect was “sent by someone”, said the detainee should be released saying he has no enmity with him.

Earlier on Saturday, the minister inaugurated the newly established Executive Passport Office in Sialkot city of Punjab.

Also during the day, some unidentified people threw ink on the welcome banners and hoardings of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif displayed at Pindi Bypass Flyover in Gujranwala.

Last month, a man had hurled a shoe at Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal when he was delivering a speech at the PML-N workers’ convention in Narowal.

The man, identified as Bilal Haris, tried to reach closer to the minister as soon as he arrived on the stage to address Pakistan Muslim-League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporters. He then hurled a shoe at Iqbal, which reportedly hit his arm. The man was arrested and later released on the minister’s order.

The daughter of ousted PM Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Safdar took to social media to condemn the incident.
