Emmanuel Macron takes charge as France s youngest ever president

PARIS – Emmanuel Macron became France’s youngest ever president on Sunday after taking oath of his office.

A solemn ceremony was arranged for the tall French head where the new president’s wife Brigitte arrived separately wearing a light blue outfit.

The 39-year-old Macron replaced President Francois Hollande whose five year long stint was marred by unemployment and terror attacks.

Macron overpowered his far-right rival Marine Le Pen to the presidency, winning more than 65 percent of the vote on May 7 and his victory made waves across the globe as people hailed the choice by French people as ‘sane’.

Macron’s political career was launched by the now former president Hollande who rescued Macron from the statistical world of investment banking to make him and advisor and then his economy minister.

“I am not handing over power to a political opponent, it’s far simpler,” Hollande said on Thursday.

Macron will elect his prime minister on Monday before flying to Berlin to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
