KARACHI – The Sindh government has rolled out Benazir Haari Card scheme to provide cash assistance to small farmers.
Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari inaugurated the scheme, which was approved by the Sindh cabinet on September 23, 2024.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stated that 1,404,422 small farmers have been registered for the scehme. Among the registered farmers, 72 percent own between one to twelve and a half acres of land.
Through the Benazir Haair Card, farmers will receive immediate cash assistance and loans on soft terms.
He said the cardholders will be prioritized for quality seeds, fertilizers, and procurement of wheat, adding that assistance will also be provided for agricultural machinery, solar tube wells, and land clearing.
There will be loan facilities for small to medium agricultural businesses, the chief minister said, adding that crop insurance will also be available, and targeted assistance will be provided in the event of natural disasters.
Shah stated that farmers with up to twelve and a half acres will receive cash assistance ranging from Rs1,000 to Rs2,000 per acre, while those with more than twenty-five acres will receive financial support of Rs500 to Rs1,000 per acre.
The issuance of the Haari Card will be overseen by a committee headed by the assistant commissioner at the relevant level, with district commissioners and divisional commissioners leading the committees at district and divisional levels, respectively.
