LAHORE – A group of five volunteer women and children has launched a year-long, ‘Chaon Sab Ke Liay’ community plantation drive under which it aims at planting 3000 trees in the city before August 14, 2018.
At the first phase of the drive, they successfully planted 800 trees in Askari XI. A large number of people including local residents, families, friends, volunteers and environment activists took a part in this activity, says a press release issued by the members of the group.
Amina Ali, a trained Climate Reality Leader & Communication Expert while speaking on the occasion said that we should not rely on government and authorities for everything. We should take individual actions and make collective efforts with like-minded people for community development.
Our children read about climate change & environment pollution in schools, so we, the mothers decided to start a plantation drive. Without any publicity, only with the help of friends and family and tree lovers we were able to achieve our target.
Sana Zahra, one of the volunteer mothers and resident of the society said that the decision to plant trees in Askari XI was to engage the management of the society to take the responsibility for these trees. The management has been very cooperative in the execution of this plantation activity.
We have launched the movement to tackle the looming water crisis and heat waves. Already, many old trees were cut in provincial capital due to urbanization and construction of roads and bridges.
Increasing heat waves and climate change are affecting our daily lives, thus the need of the hour to plant as many trees as we can.
