British ambassador to Saudi Arabia embraces Islam, performs Haj

MINA (Web Desk) – British ambassador to Saudi Arabia Simon Collis who recently converted to Islam performed his first haj while still on duty in the Kingdom.

Simon alongwith his wife Huda Mujarkech performed their first Haj. Their pictures posted on Twitter confirmed the rumours that the diplomat had converted to Islam.

Though Collis refused media requests for interviews on Wednesday, he said: “I have converted to Islam after being in Muslim societies for 30 years, and right before getting married to Huda.”

Collis joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1978 after studying Arabic. He did most of his service in Middle East and South Asia. He became Ambassador to Saudi Arabia in January 2015.

As many as 1.5 million Muslims began the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia on September 10, undeterred by last year’s deadly stampede.

Muslims around the world celebrated the Eidul Azha holiday on Monday, one of the two most important festivals of the Islamic calendar.
