NEW YORK (Web Desk) – Director of the top US intelligence agency “Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)” has urged people to cover up the webcams of their computers to avoid being spied.
Speaking during a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, James Comey explained that putting a cover over webcams is one of the “sensible things” that everyone should be doing.
“There’s some sensible things you should be doing, and that’s one of them,” Comey said regarding webcam covers. “You go into any government office and we all have the little camera things that sit on top of the screen. They all have a little lid that closes down on them. You do that so that people who don’t have authority don’t look at you. I think that’s a good thing” the official said.
Although the warning by FBI director looks bizarre but earlier the same was practically demonstrated by Mark Zuckerberg when he covered the camera and the audio jack on his Macbook with pieces of tape fearing the probable spying.
Although the webcams serve best while using the video calling feature but at the same time they make users vulnerable to the hackers as they can get access to it.
Web security companies are mulling to design bespoke covers for the webcams so that the users feel safe while surfing the web.
