WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump was quick to make an effort at taking credit for the arrest of banned Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief, Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, who was taken into custody by the authorities in Pakistan’s province, Punjab.
The US president declared Saeed as the mastermind of the deadly 2008 Mumbai attacks, hours after the JuD chief was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department in Pakistan.

Great pressure has been exerted over the last two years to find him, said the tycoon-turned-president, apparently hinting at the two years, he was in Oval office.
Hafiz Saeed was taken into custody earlier in the day by counter-terrorism forces in a terror-financing case and was sent to prison on judicial remand; Saeed was previously placed under house arrest in January 2017.
Trump’s tweet comes days before Prime Minister Imran Khan’s scheduled visit to Washington on July 22 wherein both the leaders would discuss the geopolitical situation as well as the ongoing peace process in Afghanistan.

Since 2012, the United States has offered a $10 million reward for information that brings Saeed to justice, however, Pakistan had placed a ban on the organizations associated with Saeed multiple times.
The 69-year-old has denied any involvement and said his network, which includes 300 seminaries and schools, hospitals, a publishing house and ambulance services, has no ties to militant groups.
