ISLAMABAD (Staff Report) – While the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is all set to begin his United States tour from October 20, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Rizwan Akhtar is already in Washington.
According to sources DG ISI has been busy in discussing key security matters with top American officials. He is visiting the United States in a time when key US intelligence has blamed that ISI operative was hiding in Kunduz hospital coordinating the Taliban’s attack on the city, which means the trip is really crucial.
Rizwan Akhter will return home before the premier leaver for Washington on Monday, and brief him about his talks with US officials.
The sources further added that recent attacks of Taliban on Afghan National Army are expected to be discussed in NAwaz-Obama meeting on October 22 as well. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif may once again offer support to United States and Afghanistan government to resume the stalled talks with Taliban leadership, the sources claimed.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif’s special adviser on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj and federal secretary for foreign affair Aizaz Chaudhry also left for Washington on Saturday.
