Unrest in Kashmir: Indian court requested to register case against PM Nawaz

AMBALA – An Indian court has been approached for registration of a case against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for instigating unrest in Indian-occupied Kashmir on the request of the president of the Anti-Terrorist Front of India (ATFI), Viresh Shandilya.

In his plea, Shandilya accused Nawaz Sharif of conspiring with separatist leaders of Jammu & Kashmir, including Yasin Malik, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Shabir Shah, to provoke riots. The names of these leaders have also included their names in the complaint.

Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of the Indian criminal court Swati Sehgal has forwarded the complaint to the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Harsh Kumar, who will now hear the application.

Shandilya’s legal counsel Sandeep Sachdeva said the complaint was filed in the court under 121, 153/153-A/153-AA and 120-B sections of the Indian Penal Code. 

Meanwhile, in Indian-held Kashmir, the death toll has crossed 50 and hundreds of others have been injured after nearly 2 weeks of continuous unrest in the region since the killing of militant leader Burhan Wani by Indian forces. The curfew in the valley has stretched on for a thirteenth day.

In an related development, Bajrangi Dal and Shiv Sena activists held protest demonstrations in Gurgaon, near Delhi, on Tuesday during which they burned the Pakistani Flag and condemned Pakistan’s decision to observe a ‘Black Day’ for the killings in Kashmir.
