Canada to withdraw anti-Islamic State airstrikes mission in Syria, Iraq
OTTAWA (Web Desk) - Canadian Liberal prime minister designate Justin Trudeau has confirmed that Canada will be withdrawing its jets from United States-led airstrikes mission to Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

In his first ever press conference following the historic majority sweep in federal elections, Trudeau said that he has spoken to US president Barack Obama regarding his intention to end strikes in Middle East.

"I understand the impact of airstrikes against Islamic State but still I have to stand by my promises with my people," he added.

He said that Canada has a commitment to continue to engage with the world in a responsible way.

Justin Trudeau however did not announce a timeline for the withdrawal of Canadian jets.

As many as six CF-18 Canadian fighter jets have been taking part in the US-led anti-ISIS mission in Syria and Iraq. The jets were due to remain in the region until March 2016.
