PFA shuts down 10 food points on motorway for unhygienic conditions

Pfa Shuts Down 10 Food Points On Motorway For Unhygienic Conditions

The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has closed down 10 food outlets on the Lahore-Faisalabad Motorway following an extensive inspection aimed at ensuring the availability of safe and high-quality food for travelers.

On the directives of PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid, teams led by PFA Additional Director General (Operations) Sardar Asif Dogar inspected 81 food establishments, including restaurants, tuck shops, and cafes. The inspections focused on evaluating food safety standards in production areas, kitchens, and overall hygiene.

As a result, 10 well-known food points were shut down for failing to meet health and safety regulations, while 63 eateries were fined a cumulative total of Rs1.8 million. Additionally, 25 other outlets received warning notices for improvement. PFA teams also confiscated 205 kg of unhygienic meat and 49 kg of expired food items during the inspections.

PFA Director General Muhammad Asim Javaid stated that the crackdown targeted outlets guilty of maintaining poor hygienic environments, stocking expired products, and improperly storing dairy and meat together. The inspections covered various eateries at motorway service areas, aiming to protect commuters from substandard food.

He further emphasized that all food business operators (FBOs) operating in these service areas must obtain approval from the relevant authorities before selling imported and local food products.

The PFA, acting under the directives of the chief minister, continues its vigilance on eateries along GT Road, Motorways, Lorry Adda, and bus terminals. The PFA has issued a stern warning to food points on motorways M1, M2, and M3 to comply with food safety standards or face further strict action.

Travelers are encouraged to check the quality of food before purchasing and report any concerns to the PFA helpline at 1223.
