Both of Pakistan’s cueists, Asjad Iqbal and Awais Munir, have advanced to the knockout stage of the World 6-Red Snooker Championship in Mongolia.
Asjad Iqbal defeated India’s Pandurangiah 4-1 in the morning session on Sunday. The Pakistani cueist completely outclassed his opponent, winning 32-41, 35-36, 8-75, 9-50, and 22-35.
In the evening session, Asjad faced a tough challenge from Iraq’s Ali Jaleel Ali in the last group match. At one point, the Iraqi cueist had a 2-3 lead in the game and a 29-point advantage in the frame, but Asjad seized an opportunity and never looked back.
Asjad’s winning score against Ali Jaleel was 23-39, 30-34, 0-66, 0-41, 1-54, 29-39, and 0-63. Asjad also played a break of 58 in the final frame.
Awais Munir defeated Singapore’s Jia Jun Ong 4-1 in the morning session. Awais didn’t allow his opponent to pot a single red ball in the first two frames.
In the third frame, Awais was also unable to pot any ball. His winning score in this match was 0-63, 0-65, 0-56, 2-36, and 26-35.
In his second match of the day, Awais was defeated by Israel’s Shachar Ruberg 3-4 in a thrilling contest.
Awais won the first frame with a score of 16-43, but the Israeli player leveled the match by winning the next two frames 12-53 and 13-43. In the fourth frame, Owais played a break of 64 to tie the game.
Shachar won the fifth frame, and Awais won the sixth, making it 3-3. In the decisive frame, the Israeli player won with a score of 10-40, resulting in a 3-4 defeat for Awais.
Both Pakistani players have reached the knockout stage, which will begin on Monday.
