LAHORE (Ali Zain) – Saudi Arabia deported as many as 123,527 Pakistanis who were found to be illegally residing in the kingdom whereas total 253,894 Pakistani nationals returned home declared unlawful migrants during the last five years.
Over 7.6 million Pakistanis are currently residing in different countries of the world, according to data available in foreign office; these overseas nationals have sent $17,060 million as remittances to the homeland in 2014.
Saudi Arabia topped the list to deport illegal Pakistani migrants whereas Iran remained second to send 39,203 Pakistanis home during 2009-14. United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Greece followed them by expatriating 36,371, 29,945 and 13,274 Pakistanis during the same period.
United States acquitted only 346 illegal migrants and Turkmenistan, Djibouti, Mauritius and Brazil each sent only one Pakistani back home.
Thousands of Pakistanis were also brought home on the arrangements made by government after law and situation worsened in several countries including Yemen, Libya, Tunisia and Syria.
