Ahmed Faraz being remembered today

LAHORE (Staff Report) – Seventh death anniversary of progressive Urdu poet Ahmed Faraz is being observed on today (Tuesday).

He was born in Kohat, Pakistan on 14th January 1931. He was considered one of the greatest modern Urdu poets of the last century. Faraz is his pseudonym ‘takhallus’, whereas his real name is Syed Ahmad Shah.

Faraz was considered one of the greatest modern Urdu poets of the last century.

He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz and other numerous national and international awards in recognition of his literary achievements.

His poetry has been translated into English, French, Russian and German.

His several ghazals also shot to prominence in films during 1970’s including “Ranjish Hi Sahi Dil Hi Dukhanay Ke Liye Aa” and “Ab Ke Hum Bicchray To Shayed Kabhi Khawabon Mein Milen”.

Ahmed Faraz died from kidney failure on August 25, 2008 in Islamabad.
