Pm Shehbaz Urges Un Chief To Enforce Unsc Resolutions On Kashmir

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to use his influence to implement the relevant UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir, ensuring the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination.

He made this call during a meeting with the UN Secretary-General on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York on Wednesday.

During the discussion, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s serious concerns over India’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir and emphasised the importance of resolving the dispute to achieve lasting peace and stability in South Asia.

The prime minister also condemned Israel’s actions against the Palestinians and called for an immediate, unconditional ceasefire. He urged the international community to hold Israel accountable and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the creation of a viable, sovereign Palestinian state.

Shehbaz Sharif also stressed the need to address the growing wave of Islamophobia and discrimination against Muslims globally. He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to contributing to international peace and security as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2025-26.

Additionally, the prime minister welcomed the UN Secretary-General’s initiative to organise the “Summit of the Future” and expressed hope that it would help developing nations close the financial gap needed to achieve the SDGs and climate goals.

Secretary-General Guterres thanked the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s active involvement at the UN and its contribution to global peace and security, particularly through its peacekeeping forces.
