Three Indian soldiers killed as militants attack Kupwara army camp in Kashmir

KUPWARA – At least three Indian soldiers including an officer were killed on Thursday morning when militants attacked an army camp in Chowkibal’s Panzgam area in Kupwara district of Kashmir, said Indian media.

According to reports, the camp that is located near the Line of Control was attacked by armed militants at around 4 in the morning. After an exchange of fire that continued for over an hour, Indian troops gunned down two militants.

Army spokesperson Col. Rajesh Kalia stated that the militants used guns and grenades to target the army camp.

During the attack, that is being dubbed as a Uri style attack, five Indian soldiers were left injured and were subsequently rushed to Srinagar. The Indian officer who lost life was identified as Captain Ayush. Security forces launched a search operation after the attack.

It bears mentioning that in September, last year as many as 19 soldiers were killed as militants attacked the army camp in Uri, Kashmir. India blamed Pakistan for the attack. However, Pakistan refuted the allegations, demanding tangible evidence for the ‘baseless’ claims.
