North Korea to close nuclear test site in May, says South

SEOUL – South Korea has claimed that North Korea would close its nuclear test site in May this year.

An official from South Korea expressed that the closure of the Punggye-ri site would be done in presence of public and foreign experts from South Korea and the US would be invited to watch.

North Korea would also change its time zone – currently half an hour different – to match that of the South, he added.

North Korea has yet to make an official statement on these claims.

The punggye-ri nuclear test site is the only known nuclear test site of North Korea; Nuclear tests were conducted at the site in October 2006, May 2009, February 2013, January 2016, September 2016, and September 2017

Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in agreed to work to rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons.

Their summit came after months of warlike rhetoric from the North.
